Phuket’s viewpoints are breathtaking and magnificent to say the least. All of what Phuket has to offer are displayed in sweeping vistas and beautiful white sandy beaches. The viewpoints are many but they provide plenty of diversity for the tourist or the sightseer. It is quite impossible to pick the best one, but below are ten wonderful and unique viewpoints in Phuket that you have to see to get a complete and immersive experience.
1. Promthep Cape (Laem Promthep)
The first on the list is the most famous viewpoint on the island. Promthep Cape, easily the most photographed viewpoint on the island, is especially popular at sunset. The sunrise from this viewpoint is just as unforgettable, offering a breathtaking view of Rawai Beach and the beautiful hilltop in the south. According to recent travel surveys by Tourism Boards, Promthep ranks in the top 3 most visited sites on the island (10,000 views a day during peak season, average sunset swarms).
Promthep Cape also has various other landmarks that you may enjoy, such as the lighthouse that has a killer view of the surrounding islands Koh Racha Yai, Phi Phi, Koh Racha Noi, Koh Kiaow, and its Buddhist monastery.
2. Karon Viewpoint (Three Beaches Hill)
The new Kata Viewpoint, now named Karon Viewpoint, is one of the busiest viewpoints on the island, with accessible parking, rest areas, and snack booths. Cited as Phuket’s top 5 photography hot spots, this busy viewpoint serves as a crossroads to many other tourist viewpoints and destinations, including Kata Noi, Kata Yai, its beaches, and Nai Harn. It has been branded as the “Three Beaches Hill” or the Khao Saam Haad in local dialect and is free and open all year round.
3. Windmill Viewpoint
If you are on the Promthep Cape, why not hit two birds with one stone and visit the amazing Windmill Viewpoint as well? It is named as such because it houses some white, tall, and slim windmills that face the sea and look like propellers from afar. The “Promthep Alternative Energy Station” offers a view of sea traffic coming to and from Singapore. It is also a great hangout spot for parasailers and model-plane enthusiasts because the viewpoint has spectacular thermals.
4. Khao Rang Hill Viewpoint
Ranked among the 10 best urban viewpoints in Thailand in a 2024 social media photo survey, this viewpoint offers sightseers a stunning combination of natural and superb views, perfectly blended in harmony. The grand view encompasses the nearby town, the southern part of the island, neighboring islands and places in Phuket, as well as numerous hills that dot the landscape. At 140 m altitude, it offers both daytime city views and soft evening lights.
5. Big Buddha Viewpoint
The Big Buddha is undoubtedly not to be missed if you are in the Phuket area. It is one of the most popular temples in Phuket and even the holiest and most important landmark. The image sits atop the Nakkerd Hills, between Kata and Chalong, and is tall and majestic at 45 meters. It is often combined with temple visit tours, along with visits to Wat Kitthi and Sandkharam.
Known among the locals by a different name- Phra Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri Buddha, the place becomes quiet as you approach, with soft dharma music, small bells, and birds twittering, all of which will help you forget your worries and problems, allowing you to gaze at the Big Buddha in awe.
6. Monkey Hill (Toh Sae Hil)
Monkey Hill may not be a classic viewpoint, but it does offer a scenic overlook and a local monkey population. Located 6km from the city centre, it provides a 360-degree panorama of Phuket town, Kata, Karon, and Chalong Bay.
Also known as the highest hill in Phuket, it is an excellent location for jogging and other recreational activities. A total of 400 macaques live on the mountain, and they are a friendly bunch (feeding them is highly discouraged). After the entertaining play, make sure to check out the delightfully colorful shrine at the bottom of the mountain dedicated to three spirits named Toe Sae Dam, Toe Sae Dang, and Toe Sae Kaow.
7. Panwa / Khao Khad Viewpoint
This particular viewpoint, also known as Khao Khad Views Tower, offers a full 360-degree view over the eastern and southern parts of Phuket. This place is less crowded than Big Buddha and Cape Promthep, offering tourists a more personal and private experience. The two-level tower at 270m elevation features over 200 steps, signboards identifying islands and coasts, as well as cafes and beaches. It is quieter than the West Coast viewpoints, and it’s great for sunrise or daytime vistas.
8. Laem Singh Viewpoint
Located along the scenic Kamala–Surin coastal road, this lesser-visited viewpoint offers shaded seating in a small roadside pavilion overlooking the stunning Laem Singh Beach below. Though parking is limited, it remains far less crowded than popular spots like Promthep Cape, even during sunset. Often referred to as a hidden gem, it’s ideal for photographers and travelers seeking a peaceful vantage point with uninterrupted coastal views. Its easy access and quiet charm make it a rewarding stop along Phuket’s west coast.
9. Ao Sane Beach Viewpoint
Ao Sane Beach Viewpoint is a serene, lesser-known spot tucked near Nai Harn Beach, offering peaceful views of Phuket’s rugged southwestern coastline. Accessible via a short walk from the Nai Harn entrance, followed by a light forest trail, it’s ideal for those seeking solitude and natural beauty. The area is especially popular with snorkelers due to its rocky shoreline and clear waters. With minimal facilities and fewer crowds, it’s a perfect escape for travelers looking to unwind away from busy beaches.
10. Black Rock Viewpoint
Black Rock Viewpoint in southern Phuket offers one of the island’s most impressive coastal panoramas. From the summit, you’ll see Nai Harn Beach, Ya Nui, Promthep Cape, and the turquoise stretch of the Andaman Sea.
To reach it, visitors must take a short but moderately steep hike through a forested path, so proper footwear is recommended. The area is quiet, uncrowded, and best visited in the late afternoon when the sunlight softens.

By early 2025, Phuket’s tourism rebounded to about 90% of pre-2020 levels, with viewpoint visits up 45% year-on-year. Promthep Cape alone attracts 3 to 5 million visitors annually.
