Pimphon Thongsuk, the manager of Fair House Hotel’s Koh Samui branch, attested to the current peak season, fueled by the influx of foreign tourists seeking respite on the island. The prosperity trickles down to various tourism-related businesses, with reports indicating significant profits being reaped across the industry.
Amidst this tourism windfall, major airlines in Thailand have geared up for the Songkran festival, a traditional celebration marking the Thai New Year last April 13 to 15, 2024. Thai Airways International, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and Thai Vietjet ramped up their operations to accommodate the anticipated surge in travel demand. Thai Airways International, in particular, had announced additional round trips between Bangkok and popular destinations like Phuket and Chiang Mai during the festival period, showcasing their commitment to meeting the needs of travelers during this festive season.

The spike in tourism on Koh Samui comes at a time when southern Thailand is capitalizing on issues of air quality in other parts of the country, such as Bangkok, central Thailand, and the northern regions. This strategic shift has worked in favor of the island, with reports indicating that Bangkok Airways operated a remarkable 43 fully booked flights to Koh Samui in the month of March alone, translating to an influx of over 4,500 visitors per day. The allure of Chaweng Beach, with its vibrant ambiance and array of recreational offerings, has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in drawing tourists to the island’s shores.
