For the ninth time since the inception of the TTG Asia Travel Awards, Thailand has once again been honored with the “Destination of the Year” Award. A prestigious honor for the top Asia-Pacific destination that actively supports the development and growth of the travel industry, Thailand was given this award at the ceremony and dinner gala of the TTG Asia Travel Awards held at the Centara Grand Central World, Bangkok, last September 26, 2024.

With a commitment to elevating the region’s travel industry through digital marketing and influencer culture, Thailand has continuously crafted marketing strategies that successfully put the country at the forefront of tourism in the Asia-Pacific region.

The TTG Asia Travel Awards

The TTG Asia Travel Awards is an annual event organized by TTG Asia Media, the Asia Pacific region’s leading travel and tourism publisher. Established in 1974, the company is an authority figure for luxury travel, leisure travel, corporate travel, association domains, and MICE.

Since 1989, the company has held the TTG Travel Awards to recognize and honor the best travel agencies, destinations, and establishments in the Asia Pacific region. The winners are declared based on votes given by those in the travel industry, but the “Destination of the Year” award is solely based on the decision of the TTG editors.

The annual event honors organizations and individuals in three different categories, which are the following:

  • Travel Supplier
  • Travel Agency
  • Outstanding Achievement Award

The “Destination of the Year” award falls under the Outstanding Achievement Award category, which Thailand received in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018, and 2024.

This award is given to the destination in the Asia-Pacific region which has taken proactive steps to develop and promote the travel and tourism industry. In addition, this category is the only non-voting award segment of the annual event. Instead, TTG Asia Media’s editors choose the honorees based on industry expert knowledge and experiences.

Furthermore, the travel awards are the most coveted and influential in the region’s tourism industry.

For the 2024 edition or the 33rd edition of the awards, TTG Asia Media presented Thailand with the honor at the awards ceremony and gala dinner, which was held at the Centara Grand Bangkok Convention Center. Thailand’s Deputy Governor for International Marketing, Mr. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, accepted the award on behalf of the country.

Aside from the “Destination of the Year” award, Thailand also won the “Outstanding Achievement Award for Best Travel Marketing Effort” and the “Best National Tourism Organization” for the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

How Thailand Meets the Criteria for the Award

The “Destination of the Year” award is given by TTG to the destination that recognizes its efforts in developing and promoting the travel industry, pushing innovative travel experiences, and contributing to the continuation of the global tourism sector.

In recent years, Thailand has heavily used the digital space as its primary platform for promoting tourism. One of these efforts is the “TAT Connex,” which focuses on influencer culture marketing. Utilizing popular influencers and inviting them to the country to promote the local travel industry, Thailand has successfully adapted to the trends and demands of the times.

Other strategies include the creation of mobile applications for assisting tourists, as well as using data-driven advertising. The latter is used to create tailor-made campaigns that target specific audiences.

These innovations, targeted approaches to tourism marketing, and an undeniable strategic take on hospitality contribute to the country’s top spot in the Asia-Pacific region as the leading destination for travel in 2024.

With these programs and the adoption of improved strategies, Thailand is predicted to experience a further influx of tourists and a boost in the country’s overall economy.
