Thailand has introduced its revised visa exemption and Visa on Arrival measures, with the new framework taking effect on September 15, 2026. The updated rules provide eligible international travelers with a streamlined 30-day visa exemption for tourism, while introducing separate 15-day arrangements for selected nationalities.
For most holidaymakers, the new 30-day allowance continues to provide ample time to enjoy Thailand’s beaches, cultural attractions, dining and luxury hospitality. The changes are particularly relevant for travelers planning longer vacations or extended stays, who may now need to review their permitted period of stay before traveling.
Thailand Introduces Shorter Visa-Free Stays for International Travelers
Under the revised framework, nationals of 60 countries and territories can enter Thailand without a visa for tourism for up to 30 days per visit. The updated list includes major international travel markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Thailand has also introduced a 15-day visa exemption for travelers from Mauritius and Seychelles, while nationals of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia can apply for a Visa on Arrival for stays of up to 15 days at designated immigration checkpoints.
The revised framework also allows visa-exempt entry through land and sea checkpoints up to twice within a calendar year for eligible travelers, with certain neighboring nationalities covered by different arrangements. Meanwhile, the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) remains a separate requirement for all non-Thai nationals entering by air, land or sea and can be completed online within three days before arrival.
Travelers who entered Thailand before September 15 remain entitled to stay until the final date shown on their immigration stamp. For those planning extended private villa stays, multi-week holidays or multi-destination journeys, checking the permitted stay and applicable visa requirements before departure can help ensure a smooth experience.
For most luxury travelers taking shorter holidays, the 30-day visa exemption continues to offer considerable flexibility, leaving ample time to experience Thailand’s diverse destinations and hospitality.
