Niseko is gearing up for a spectacular 2025 Christmas and New Year season with dazzling fireworks, torchlight parades, and cultural festivities across its world-famous ski resorts. Known for its world-class powder and festive charm, the destination’s holiday celebrations blend winter adventure with Japanese tradition, drawing visitors from around the world. According to The Australian, Niseko has recorded snowfall reaching 19–23 centimeters daily this year — the highest in nearly seven decades — setting the perfect backdrop for its 2025 holiday celebrations.
Festive Highlights Across Niseko
The holiday season begins with Hanazono Fireworks Nights, lighting up the sky every Saturday from mid-December through the New Year period on December 14, 21, 24, 28, and 31. These short yet stunning displays, synchronized with Christmas music, can be viewed from the slopes and gondola stations, with Hanazono’s towering Christmas tree completing the festive atmosphere.

On December 25, Niseko Village Christmas Night brings family-friendly entertainment, including Santa Claus appearances, live violin and piano performances, and special dining menus across resort restaurants. Guests can also enjoy gingerbread workshops, reindeer meet-and-greets, and snow rafting with Santa—activities that make the season memorable for children and adults alike.
As the year ends, Niseko’s slopes come alive with vibrant New Year’s Eve celebrations. Grand Hirafu’s “Light Up the Night” offers illuminated skiing until 8:30 p.m., followed by a torchlight descent at midnight. Annupuri hosts its own torch parade, free night skiing, and live music beginning at 7:30 p.m. At Niseko Village, guests can welcome 2025 with live jazz and drum performances, traditional toshikoshi soba (year-end noodles), and a grand fireworks display at midnight. Nearby Rusutsu Resort will feature a 1,200-firework show and torch-skiing performance for those seeking another option.
Festivities continue into New Year’s Day with sunrise gondola rides at Niseko Village around 7:30 a.m., offering panoramic views of Mount Yotei, while Hanazono EDGE hosts traditional Japanese New Year events and on-snow activities.
Beyond Niseko, travelers can explore other winter celebrations across Hokkaido. The Yukitopia Snow Festival in Niseko features snow sculptures, pond-skimming contests, and local food stalls. The Otaru Light Path Festival (February 8–15, 2025) transforms Otaru Canal with candlelit snow lanterns, and the Sapporo Snow Festival in early February showcases massive snow sculptures and cultural exhibits. Visitors can easily access these regional festivities while staying in charming Niseko chalet rentals, offering cozy retreats amid the snow.
Fireworks continue every Saturday from December through March, depending on weather, with free shuttles provided for major events. As Niseko’s festive season marks peak travel time, visitors are encouraged to book accommodations early and dress warmly for temperatures that can drop below −10°C. Prime viewing spots for fireworks include the Hanazono slopes, gondola areas, and Niseko Village plaza.
With record snowfall and a lineup of vibrant celebrations, Niseko reaffirms its place as Asia’s premier winter destination for families, couples, and snow enthusiasts.
